Do You Like Country Life or City Life Better?
Hi friends! My name is Emily and I'm 10 years old. Today I want to tell you about something I've been thinking a lot about lately - whether I like living in the country or the city better. It's a tough choice because there are great things about both! Where I Live Now
Right now, I live in a small town in the countryside. We have a little white house with a big backyard. My dad has a garden where he grows tomatoes, zucchini, carrots, and other yummy veggies. We also have two dogs named Rufus and Daisy who love running around and playing outside.
I really like living here because it's very peaceful and quiet. The air is super fresh and clean. At night you can see millions of bright stars in the sky since there aren't any city lights. My favorite sounds are the birds chirping in the morning and the crickets singing at night.
Another great thing about country life is that everyone knows each other in our little town. We always wave and say hello when we see our neighbors out walking or working in their yards. People are really friendly here. I have a lot of freedom to
play outside and explore the woods and creeks around my house with my friends.
One downside is that we have to drive quite far, almost an hour, to get to bigger stores, restaurants, museums, and other fun activities in the nearest city. The nearest mall is even farther away. I get bored sometimes because there isn't that much to do for kids in my town besides playing outdoors. My Big City Adventures
Even though I love living in the country, I also really enjoy visiting my aunt and uncle who live in a big city a few times a year. Their apartment is in a huge skyscraper right downtown. When I look out their windows, I see flashing neon signs, taxis zooming by, and people walking on crowded sidewalks carrying shopping bags.
The city is totally different from my small town! There is always something happening and someplace new to explore. Within just a few blocks, there are fancy restaurants from all around the world, giant toy stores, awesome playgrounds, art museums, and movie theaters. You never run out of exciting things to do.
However, the city can also be overwhelming sometimes. It's really noisy with honking car horns and construction sounds. The sidewalks are so jam-packed that you have to walk really slowly. I get tired just from all the walking you have to do, since there aren't parks or green spaces very close by.
Another thing I don't like about the city is how expensive everything is. A hot dog from a street vendor costs 5! A slice of pizza is 4! The stores and activities also cost a lot more than they do back home. My aunt and uncle have a much smaller living space too, since their apartment only has two tiny bedrooms. My aunt says you have to deal with a lot of rude people in the city who are always in a rush and won't hold doors for you. People in my town are a lot nicer and more relaxed. She also doesn't like how dirty the city streets are with litter and graffiti everywhere.
The Pros and Cons
So those are some of the biggest pros and cons I've noticed between country living and city living. I go back and forth on which one I prefer. Sometimes I dream about all the cool things I could do and see if my family lived in a huge city. But then I remember how nice it is to have a big backyard, be surrounded by nature, and not deal with loud noises and crazy traffic.
I think as a kid, it's really fun to visit cities but also really nice to live in the country. When I'm older though, I could see myself wanting to live in a city for a while. It would be amazing to have so many opportunities, activities, and new people right outside my door. I would just have to get used to the noise, expenses, and fast pace.
For now though, I'm happy being a country girl. I have woods to explore, streams to splash in, and fields to run around in. I get great exercise and make awesome forts and stick castles with my friends. My pets can safely roam around our yard without me worrying about cars or unfriendly people. At night when I gaze up at the twinkling stars, I feel so peaceful and free here. Don't get me wrong, I cherish my city adventures when I get to go. But the country air, beauty, and tranquility always feels like coming back home. Maybe someday I'll be a city dweller, but for now, I'm rural living all the way! What about you? Do you like the country or the city better? I'd love to hear your thoughts! No matter where you live though, the most important thing is appreciating the beauty of our world and being with the people we love. Home is what you make of it. Thanks for reading my essay! I worked really hard on it and tried my best to explain both sides using examples from my own
life. Writing lets me explore my thoughts and experiences in a fun, creative way. I hope you enjoyed reading about my rural and city adventures as much as I enjoyed telling the tales!
