摘要：User equipment (UE) in a cellular telecommunications system is operated suchthat the UE begins operating in a power saving state when a first set of predefinedcriteria have been satisfied, and leaves the power saving state when a second set of
predefined criteria have been satisfied. Determining satisfaction of the first set ofpredefined criteria includes making a plurality of signal quality measurements of a signalreceived from a serving cell in the telecommunications system, and making a plurality ofsignal quality measurements of a signal received from one or more neighboring cells. Afirst trend line is determined from the signal quality measurements of the serving cell,and a second trend line is determined from the signal quality measurements of the oneor more neighboring cells. The first set of predefined criteria are considered to havebeen satisfied if the first and second trend lines are not converging.
